Health Benefits of Red Wine: Antioxidants

Many of us have heard of the fact that red wine has numerous health benefits. Moderate consumption of red wine (such as one six ounce glass of red wine a day) has been shown to:

* Help maintain a healthier body weight

What makes all of this possible? Antioxidants! You may hear a lot about antioxidants these days. Antioxidants, such as vitamins and minerals, are found in foods and can protect healthy cells in our body to protect them from free radicals. These free radicals can be the cause of developing many problems such as immune dysfunction, cancer, and degenerative disorders. By blocking free radicals, this allows our bodies to combat the signs of aging, as well as many diseases.

Red wine is known to have more antioxidants than white because of the fermentation of red wine. Unlike white wine, red wines are made with the skins of grapes, which is the part of the grape that is extremely rich in antioxidants. This is why red wine has much more antioxidants than white. The antioxidants that are most commonly found in red wine include resveratrol, catechins, and quercetin.

Antioxidants are good for you, but larges amounts of any kind of alcohol is not. This is why it is important to understand that red wine should be drank in moderation to enjoy the benefits of it. A single glass of red wine at dinner can do a world of wonders for your body, and can definitely do a body good!
